The Friends of Cincinnati Museum Center is a group of men and women who support the mission of Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal: "Cincinnati Museum Center inspires people of all ages to learn more about our world through science; regional history; and educational, engaging and meaningful experiences."
History On April 3, 2003, there was a joint meeting of the boards of the Auxiliary of Cincinnati Museum Center and the History Association of Cincinnati Museum Center. Both groups were formed to support institutions whose histories date back to the early 1800s. The Auxiliary (formerly known as the Women’s Committee of the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History) can trace its roots to the early 1900s, while the History Association began in 1965 as the Women’s Association of the Cincinnati Historical Society (WACHS). In 1990, the Cincinnati Historical Society Library, housed in the Cincinnati Art Museum in Eden Park, and the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History, located on Gilbert Avenue, moved to the renovated train station at Union Terminal and became entities of Cincinnati Museum Center. The two viable, autonomous support groups continued to serve their respective organizations with field trips, safaris and numerous other programs and fundraisers. After 13 years, it was decided that both of these affiliates, with similar goals and objectives, would find strength and unity by working together as one organization for the overall benefit of Cincinnati Museum Center. The first official meeting and program took place on September 8, 2003, in the Cincinnati Dining Room at Cincinnati Museum Center.
Programs Members of the Friends of Cincinnati Museum Center enjoy special programs, field trips and luncheons at captivating sites in the area. The Friends support such endeavors as preserving collections, providing funds for school visits for underprivileged children and hosting educational programs including the Charles & Ralph Dury Science Lecture Series.
