POSITION:

EXHIBIT PROGRAM COORDINATOR (Museum of Natural History & Science)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensures all visitors to the Museum of Natural History & Science (MNH&S) have a safe, enjoyable, and educational experience.

Collaborate with curatorial and senior education staff to develop age-appropriate, accurate and relevant science programming for on-floor use. Supervise/train exhibit program specialists to provide quality customer service and engaging exhibit interpretation and science programs. Collaborate with community partners; representing MNHS at local environmental meetings as a CMC ambassador.                                                                                                                                                          

Provides expertise and leadership to Specialists, Interpreters and Volunteers. Trains, assists and mentors volunteers as needed. Ensures that they are scientifically accurate, meet educational standards and are age appropriate. Interacts with museum curators to ensure scientific integrity of floor presentations  Must be able to participate in the running of the museum floor activities. May be on the floor up to 60% of the time. Maintains the budgets for MNH&S (excluding Animal Resources and Administration)  Purchases materials and supplies needed for exhibit programs. Provides professional development opportunities for staff. Interviews staff candidates as needed/requested by Director. Maintains an open channel of communications with Director. May create and assist in the creation of educational activities by collaborating with staff specialists. May be asked to work on special projects and represent MNH&S on committees.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in science or education preferred, but comparable experience in informal education and visitor/customer relations acceptable.

 

Experience working with the public, particularly school groups and families in an educational setting or museum, is desirable .                                                                                                                                                     

. Minimum two years experience working in formal/informal education or museums preferred. Experience with children and adults in visitor/customer relations a benefit. Must be a team player.

Must possess excellent communication, public speaking, mediating, customer service and organizational skills. Experience with Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Position is full time. Tuesday –Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m . Occasional evening hours required.
