ECSITE PROJECT MENTOR

RESPONSIBILITIES:

ECSITE mentors provide support to teachers in six Northern Kentucky Head Start centers by providing expertise and feedback regarding teaching children inquiry-based early childhood science.               

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports teacher capacity to apply principles of teaching inquiry-based science by initiating communication and meeting with five early childhood teachers at least one time per week.
  • Reviews science lessons for content and engagement as requested by teacher.
  • Visits classroom of each teacher to assist teacher with science program facilitation.
  • Visits classroom of each teacher to provide feedback and suggestions on creating a science inquiry learning space that is adaptable to multiple learning styles.
  • Complete weekly reports regarding visits to be submitted to ECSITE Coordinator.
  • Attend Science Inquiry Practice Workshops and ECSITE project meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood education.  Masters Degree or enrolled in Masters program preferred.  3+ years applicable job experience may be substituted for a degree required if appropriate.
  • Background in educational program development and delivery is required.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills required.
  • Able to enthusiastically build relationships with teachers. Must enjoy working with groups of teachers and parents with varied socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation or be able to arrange for transportation to visit Head Start centers.
  • Computer skills must include proficiency in email and web browsing programs.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Approximately 100 hours per semester spread across 2 to 2.5 days/week as best fits teachers’ needs.
  • Attendance at bi-monthly Science Inquiry Practice workshops.
  • Position will require driving personal vehicle or using public transportation.
  • Working hours may include early morning, weekend and evening hours.
  • Attending training and providing support for Duke Energy Children’s Museum floor programming and Programs on Wheels programming; as well as ECSITE special events.
  • Work environment can include but is not limited to: normal office and classrooms.

This is a six month contract.
